Apartment Woes + Fake Nails and Fake Glow

Awww I have been majorly neglecting this blog. As soon as I came back to school I was drowned in piles upon piles of homework and projects, and it didn’t help that I procrastinated on them all Spring Break. Ooops.

I’m looking to move out of my current place so I have been apartment hunting for the past couple of weeks to no avail, all the apartments around here are either really shitty as in dark and dingy or really expensive as in $2000+ for a 2 bed/1bath or TOO FAR from campus!! Right now I share a room with someone, it’s not bad but I think I am ready to have my own room! Lol I’m growing up! But of course having your own room means paying at least double the rent >_< and my parents are going to have to help pay for part of it, oh well, I’m their only girl so I get spoiled I guess. Although I feel bad enough that they are putting me through college with no loans whatsoever so I won’t have to worry about graduating college with a truckload of debt to pay off, now I am going to have to ask them to help pay my rent! Ahhhh. I do work part time so I am definitely able to pay at least half. I have literally been stalking craigslist 24/7 for new listings but nothing looks good. My future apartment-mate and I have been looking at open houses and have been disappointed by all of them…except this ONE place…it was GORGEOUS and the rent? Well under $2000/month. Everything was perfect except…the move in date is April 15th and there is already a wait list. There’s no way in hell we’re going to be able to move in within the next 2 weeks when the lease we have now ends in June. Paying double rent for 2 months is not very fun, and there are people ahead of us that will be able to move in sooner. Sigh, I can’t believe we had to let that one go. Now nowhere else will ever look as good! And certainly not for that price.

Anyway, enough blabbering about boring apartments, I’ll get to the part with pictures.

I took a little stroll down to Walgreens the other day and bought myself some fake nails. I am a fake nails virgin and my bare little fingertips have never been touched by anything other than nail polish (well, and nail polish remover, and cuticle oil…), so I decided to pick up a DIY nails kit for the very first time:

To be honest, I always thought fake nails looked tacky and ghetto fabulous if done at the right length and curvature, but these seem to look pretty natural. I mean they say Real Short in length! The process was simple enough, but way too time consuming. I think I would only do them again if I had at least 30-40 minutes to blow on doing my nails.

The result:

Not bad eh?? They look super natural! Well that’s because I had to trim down all of the nails because even with the Super Short length, they were still too long for my short little finger nails, or maybe I just prefer shorter nails. Also, the nails came in a variety of sizes arranged by numbers so you know which number to use on each finger for both hands when you are fitting them. Well, even though it included 24 nails, more than enough to do 2 applications, I used up all of the smallest sizes so I guess it’s a one-time application for me. Oh well. My hand is tiny! And so are my fingers, and so are my fingernails… Can you believe that the biggest size it had was SO BIG that I put it on my big toe and it was even BIGGER than my big toe?!? Umm whose thumb is that huge?? That’s kind of gross. Next time if I’m in the mood for some fake nails I’m going to pick up the kit for girls that’s “Mom approved”, the nail sizes are smaller AND it’s cheaper :P

I have to admit though, I’m really getting addicted to having fake nails. It’s been 3 days and they are still in perfect condition! No chips, no peeling, no need to touch up like regular nail polish. Does anyone know how long I can wear them for? I’m worried about the removal part. I read that you are supposed to soak your fingers in acetone nail polish remover. Umm isn’t that like super drying and damaging? Is there a better method to remove them? I need all the advice I can get so that I don’t rip out my nails and damage them even more. Thanks in advance :)

I’ll end with a FOTD from this weekend:

I played with my new NARS stuff (more on that coming soon, I was too lazy to take pictures of everything) and the result of my fake glow = NARS Laguna Bronzer to contour + a dab of NARS Outlaw on apples (it’s bright and pigmented!) + MAC Nylon to highlight under the brows. By the way, Nylon is like THE frostiest eyeshadow I have ever used, so frosty that I am scared of it, I actually hesitate a little before using it each time and hold my breath as I blend it. LOL I sound like such a dork but it’s true. MAC *really* means business when it says Frost.

Oh yea, after reading Ichigobunnie’s review on the Epi stick, I went and bought myself one off eBay! It was actually $6 something after shipping and it’s coming from Canada. Hopefully it gets here soon, I’m excited! I can get rid of my upper lip fuzzies! I have been plucking them but I can never fully get everything, and waxing is too scary. I tried to DIY once, and I burned my finger. LOL it is not for the clumsy apparently.

Good luck on the apartment hunting. I know it can be stressful because I had to help my bf find an apartment before he moved back home. Those nails DO look really natural. The only time I have pretty nails is when I have fake ones on. Haha. :P And I love your FOTD, so glowy and pretty. To be honest, the MAC Nylon is a VERY pretty highlighter on you! I like it. :D

my mani said removing fake nails were not a very pleasant experience, at all. apologies i don’t actually know -how- they’re removed, but she told me that it feels like your entire nail is being ripped off from the root. good luck :| they look fab btw, makes me wanna try them, even if i have to rip my nails off :p

i had fake nails on acouple of times and i removed it using the nail polish remover in a jar that has a soaked sponge in it.. removing it is a long process too, you want to be very patient and let the fake nail kinda peel on its own. DO NOT PULL or forcefully try to remove it…. i did that when i first had fake nails and it was not pretty.

i’ve had acylic nails before and drug store ones before. the acrylic ones you get at the salon SUCK at coming off with acetone BUTTTT the store bought ones should dissolve super fast cuz the whole thing turns into a powder in the acetone. I say test it out with one of those ginormous ones and see if it dissolves into thin air if you throw it into a small bowl.

I love your fotd. Your looks are always so pretty, neutral, and wearable. You pull off the makeup-but-not-looking-like-makeup look so well!

wow the fake nails look really natural!! i’m impressed! I wanna get fake nails..but I’m way too scared of the damage it does to the nails ;.; . my friend got her nails done and it damaged the top layer of her nails >_< , but they look so pretty :O

and btw, about the Epistick, don’t expect it to get every single hair rooting it out. Waxing is the only full-proof way of removing ALL the hair all at once, including the roots. You’ll have to epistick the area a few times to get out the hair, but it’s still SOOO much quicker than tweezing! (and even tweezing sometimes doesn’t get the root of those fine-easy-to-snap-hairs) I sure hope you like it because this product is a hit or miss, but personally i love it. I don’t feel that self-conscious anymore bout my upper lip fuzzies now that I can get rid of them lol

Holy cow! Your nails look just like the packaging! Are you secretly a model for them?? ;)

Good luck apartment hunting girl! We’ve got that kind of rent prices in San Francisco, so where ever you are, I hope it becomes easier.

I’ve bought those before! Or something from the brand in a different style… Yeah, you should soak your nails in acetone. If you use the 100% stuff it’ll melt right off (NO yanking or pain!). Your nails won’t look very happy as a result, so you might want to use some products to revive them and perhaps wait a while in between applications. It’ll last you up to two weeks I think. It depends on you fast your nails grow and whether or not the glue holds them on long enough. I enjoy use them! It’s such a simple, cheap, QUICK manicure. And you’re right… the thumb ones ARE huge and the nail tips ARE too long!

I had the same issues with fake nails, but I like how your’s look! I haven’t used them in forever, but they look good. :)

Never tried fake nails, but since I saw your blog, I would, maybe..give it a try. I am more into nail art..but this one i believe is easier…is it easier to peel it off? Doesn’t it hurt your original nails :D thanks in advance
