MAC Pigment Samples Haul and Lots of Swatches
Arashi/blu3: So sorry that it has taken me so long to ship out the Silver Powder. I have been moving and everything is packed up in boxes so I haven’t gotten around to shipping it. But it is most definitely going out tomorrow (err today rather) Friday 6/06. Let me know when you get it!
So after seeing the The Body Needs link from Christiana’s blog, I decided that at $1.59 per MAC pigment sample with 1/4 teaspoons, it was a damn good deal. I ordered 10 pigments to add to my growing MAC pigment samples collection. Some people might find it suspicious that the the samples were so cheap from this random site that seemed to spring up overnight, and I had my doubts as well, but when the order arrived, as soon as I opened the packaging I knew that these were 100% legitimate MAC pigments, so I was very happy about that. I have decided that MAC pigment samples are the way to go, because there is no way that I would be able to finish a whole jar of pigment in this lifetime. Unless I use it every single day for the rest of my life, but what is the fun in that? I want to try all different colors!! And samples are more than enough to last a very long time.
So here was what I ordered:

Deep blue green, Blue, Bell Bottom Blue, Softwash Gray, Teal, Revved Up, Dark Purple, Entremauve, Lovely Lily, Fairylite. I was really excited to see that they had some LE and discontinued shades like Blue and Entremauve. I have always wanted to try Entremauve, it looks like the most perfect shade of purple.
They were also nice enough to include an extra sample of Quick Frost pigment for free!

I’m pretty happy with my order, and even though the shipping was kind of pricey, the total order came out to be around $20 which ends up being $2 per sample including shipping. Not too bad! I was impressed with their wide selection as well, definitely going to order some more when new ones are added.
Here I have swatched all of the pigment samples that I have, including the new ones I just got. I also have samples of Melon and Vanilla as well as full size jars of Cornflower and Mauvement. But I didn’t swatch those :/
All swatches are applied dry without a base.
Greens:

In same order as above. I know that Copperized looks bronze, but in real life it is actually a gorgeous olive green, the flash brings out the bronze tones more I guess. Night Light and Golden Olive are really similar! I think I prefer Golden Olive though, because the texture is smoother. Chartreuse is soooo pretty.
Blues:

How GORGEOUS are these colors?? Even though Softwash Gray looks chalky and unpigmented in the picture, it is actually a really pretty duochrome color that would look really pretty layered over darker shadows.
Purples:

I thought that Apricot Pink and Revved Up would be very similar but they’re actually quite different, Revved Up has more golden and bronze tones. Apricot Pink is one of my favorite pigments, it’s so pretty! Too bad my little sample is TINY (probably only 1/16 of a teaspoon) and it is a LE shade
I was disappointed in the texture of Entremauve, it is extremely hard to blend, but that shade of purple is just perfection, exactly the shade of purple that I have been looking for: not too pink (hate pink purples), not too red and not too blue. I will make it work!
Neutrals:

Quick Frost turned out to be really pretty, it has a green tint, very interesting color. Your Ladyship is gorgeous but the fallout is terrible! Huge pieces of glitter would fall unto my cheeks by the end of the day whenever I use this, it really sucks because I love the color. Naked and Fairylite hardly show up, but Naked is a great highlighter, and Fairylite is a great disappointment. The color is just really weird, the texture sucks, and the pigmentation is terrible.
oOo. you got ALOT! hehe.
very pretty. i also agree that MAC pigment samples are more convenient for me as well… because there’s no way I’ll end up using a whole tub of MAC pigments. LOL.
Woot! So many colors~~~ pretty~~
I love Chartreuse!
great looking swatches!!!! I will definitely refer back to your site if I decided to order
thanks for this!
oooooooh all of those pigment samples look so pretty! I’m very tempted to order some samples after seeing all your swatches
Thank you! This was so helpful! I’ve been eyeing their pigments for while, but I haven’t ordered anything. Their shipping prices suck! lol. But I guess if it still comes out to be $2 a pigment then that’s not that bad.
some very pretty swatches! i bought my first tub of MAC piggie in blue bell bottom.. n it is WAY too much, i really prefer having them in samples jars!
Nice haul! I have softwash grey. Love to layer it over a dark base, like black fluidline, for dark smokey looks.
Some of the pro pigments have that chunky texture like Entremauve, which is rather disappointing because they’re a PITA to blend. I don’t know if you’ve tried it yet, but using it wet might make the texture a bit better?
If you’re looking for a color that I think might be close to Entremauve, check out Meow Cosmetics (http://www.meowcosmetics.com) Shoplifting eye shadow in their VandalEyes collection. I think it is close to the color you swatched, and it is fairly easy to blend. I love seeing your samples swatched
How much of each pigment did you get? I know they sell 1/4 teaspoon… but some of the jars look like there’s more!
Thanks in advance!
