Smoky Olive Eyes Tutorial
Here is the tutorial that I had promised! A fast and simple daytime smokey look using only two eyeshadow colors and very minimal blending!!
First apply some eyeshadow primer of your choice (I used UDPP) to the lids:

Blend it evenly, oh and I also filled in my brows during this time.

Take a creamy and smudgeable pencil such as the UD 24/7 Liner, you can use whatever liner you want in whatever color you want, as long as the formula is more creamy rather than waxy. This would put to good use all those liners that you found to be too smudgey! Paint pots can also work, but if you’re like me and don’t already own them, why not just use the tools that you already have? Mostly everyone has a couple of different colored eyeliners.
The color I used is Stash, a dark shimmery olive.

Now pretend it’s a crayon and color in your lids, making sure to not color past your natural eye crease:

That’s why you should use a creamy liner so that it glides on easier.
What it should look like: see how the color doens’t go past my crease?

Now take a brush and blend the outer edge of color just a little bit so the line is not so harsh, you can also use your finger or a Q-tip to blend:

Result:

Now take a medium fluffy shadow brush and dip it in an olive green color (I used MAC Sumptuous Olive). This shadow color should be similar to the color of your chosen liner in the previous step, like if you used a dark purple liner you can choose a purple or pink shadow, a black liner would look great layered with a shimmery gold, etc. Whatever you like!

Gently PAT, do not blend the shadow onto your lids on top of the base color, you can go a little past your crease if you wish, but don’t do it too much.

Result:

As you can see the color closer to my lashline is obviously more intense due to the extra layer of base color, so if you just apply the eyeshadow color a little bit past where you applied the base color, you automatically get a sheerer color due to the lack of base color, so it’s like achieving the blended fading effect without having to blend! The fading effect is vertical rather than horizontal, which I believe is much more flattering to the Asian eye, especially if you do not have deep set creases like me.
Now take some highlighting color, I used MAC Vanilla pigment in pressed form:

Take a wide fluffy brush and apply to your browbone. You can also slightly blend the highlighter into the shadow color below to create a more seamless line, but there shouldn’t be much blending required at all.

Result:

Just a little bit of green peeking out when you open your eyes, the effect is very subtle but yet still defines the crease:

Now take your original eyeliner that you used as base color and line the bottom lashline. Here I used UD Stash again:

Result:

If the eyeliner you chose was already a pretty dark color, like black or gunmetal or something, then use the same liner and line your upper lashline to define it more, since UD Stash is not dark enough to show up against itself, I used a black eyeliner (UD Zero) to line the upper lashline.

Result:

Don’t forget to finish up by curling your lashes and apply mascara! I used Shu lash curler and CoverGirl’s LashBlast mascara:

Result:

Now for the rest of the face, I already applied concealer and foundation prior to this, so an angled fluff brush and some bronzer, I used NARS Laguna Bronzer, my fave:

Suck in cheeks and contour

Take blush brush and a shimmery peachy/pink blush, I used the gorgeous NARS Madly:

Apply to apples of cheeks:

Result:

Then apply some shimmery lipgloss of your choice, I used Revlon SuperLustrous in Glossy Rose (go get this it’s awesome!!), and the final result:

Gotta have one with flash…it’s like automatic airbrushing.

And that’s it! Hope this tutorial was easy to follow, let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you! I actually haven’t ever lined my eyes like that to use it like a shadow color!! I’m gonna try that tomorrow with purple! =). Your cheek colors are gorgeous! I’m gonna swatch Madly next time I’m at the Nars counter! You look beautiful!
Super pretty!! Love this tutorial~~ What a great way to use liner!
I have to say you have great skin!
It came out so fresh and natural. I like it a lot!
I love this! I love all your natural looks, If I did natural looks on me, it’ll be boring!
but with you it’s WOW
OMG, I love it! I am sold on getting those liners now! Thanks a lot
I did a look with purple today! It didn’t show up very well in photos though so I may or may not post it! But thank you for the ideas!! =).
Hahah Tobi sometimes will refuse to move if he really doesn’t like what he’s wearing.. just sometimes though haha. He really hates the hood of his sweatshirt. Yay! You get to see your doggies next month =). Hahaha I fold and organize my underwear by company/style =P
Oooh lovely tutorial! There’s nothing I love more than green and especially a smokey one! Really pretty
Love the tutorial!! You just made my Sunday ^^ I adore your wonderful tutorials, and it’s great to have something I can actually follow with my monolids!! Not to mention, they’re always incredibly well done
Thanks for the tut!
Olive green is very flattering on you. Thanks for the detailed tutorial! I wonder if I should try that contouring, your pictures are sooooo convincing! But you have great features already, hope it’ll work with me. Tried laguna+deep throat/orgasm/(torrid)+madly just like what Fuz did a few posts back. Works well with me since I seem to be over applying laguna if it’s just two shades. *noob* I’m so lemming Stash! Wished it was part of the set.
About Cargo, it’s really pretty…there’s a silky lightness to it. but when i swatched it side by side, i noticed that laguna went on evenly. with cargo it was somewhat “powdery”, so i had to blend it to even it out. but i love the color. and i know i need them both.
thanks for your well-wishes. my dad’s okay. oh, about hjh, i’m impressed too that she kept her monolids! i’d be so bummed if she gets em done, cos she looks gorgeous with em. but i wonder if she got something else done?
this is so nice! i love that color, & it’s so in depth & detailed
yeah i agree with the ladies, ithe green is very pretty! your nars blush reminded i should buy more nars blush here since the yen is so bloody strong here!
hi,
you should do more tutorials. I loved it coz I am asian too and i have eyes exactly, well
like yours, in terms of the double eyelid crease. Therefore your tutorial was really
almost
helpful. Do more ya
