Spring Makeup Tutorial Using MAC Pigments, Gossip Girl Contest Entry

Ok this will be a mega post consisting of a tutorial AND my official entry to Mona’s Gossip Girl Contest, because I am knocking two birds with one stone by using my spring look for the contest, hah!  

Since this spring is all about purples and lavenders, I decided to do a lavender/purple look, and because lavender tends to wash me out, I blended it with warmer colors to make it more wearable for me.  

Start out with a clean eye that is primed.  I already did my brows and used UDPP to prime:

Then apply a shimmery lavender cream shadow as base, you can also use paint pots, etc.  because MAC pigments has less fallout when they have a sticky base to adhere to.  I used Stila’s Mousse shadow pot in Amber.

Apply it all over lid with finger:

Then take a shimmery lavender eyeshadow like MAC Lovely Lily pressed Pigment:

Apply it directly on top of where the cream shadow was applied:

Then take a warm golden orange like MAC Melon pressed pigment:

Apply it on the inner corner of the eye and halfway on the lid:

Take a darker purple like MAC Entremauve pressed pigment (this actually looks darker than in the picture):

Apply it on the outer corner and blend inwards:

Take a shimmery highlight, I used MAC Vanilla pressed pigment because it has a slightly pink/red iridescence. 

Blend away harsh lines and also highlight under brows:

Now take more Melon pigment and apply it to inner bottom eye:

Take Lovely Lily pigment and apply it on the outer bottom eye:

Take some waterproof Black eyeliner pencil, I used Prestige,

Tightline!  I’m tightlining instead of creating a heavier line on the lid because I want the look to be very natural and fresh without any visible black lines.

Curl lashes and apply mascara:

See how “awake” the eye looks without heavy liner?  It also makes your lashes look longer

Now the cheeks! My favorite part.  Take a rosey pink blush, I used EDM Apple:

Apply to top of apples for a fresh and cute look.  No contouring with bronze here because it’s a very light Spring look.

Now for the lips, I lined and filled in my lips with a pink-nude liner using Prestige lipliner in Honeysuckle (my HG) and then applied the Awake Poppy Red lipstick on top, a pretty coral color.  The liner and lipstick blended together creates a really natural MLBB color that matches my blush perfectly.

Now for the contest entry!

I chose Blair Waldorf because I totally covet her entire closet!! She has the best style on the show in my opinion, and I love her classic preppy look with a modern twist.  

Look #1:  All American Prep.

Blair loves to wear Red, White, and Navy Blue for a clean All-American look, so I tried to imitate this style:

Hairband? Check.
Scarf? Check.
Preppy blazer? Check.
I also added my red glasses because it matches!

Look #2:  Tweed.

You can’t really do preppy without doing tweed, and Blair wears all kinds of tweed jackets and coats on the show.  

Unfortunately I don’t own a lot of tweed, so I had to make do with what I had.

Blair loves to wear bright colors, and she wears all kinds of pretty coats!  I was inspired by this gorgeous picture of her:

I LOVE THAT COAT!!  It’s absolutely ravishing on her.  I on the other hand had to make do with what I had:

Look #4: Garden Soiree.

I love this fresh floral Alice + Olivia dress that Blair wore, it feels very Lily Pulitzer and country club to the extreme.  My version is slightly longer and a less structured and more ruffly, but I think Blair would still approve

Thank you Mona for hosting this contest, it was so much fun dressing up as my inner Prep and looking to Blair for inspiration.  The more pictures I look for on the internet the more I just want to have every piece of clothing and accessory she has!   It also doesn’t hurt that she looks gorgeous and looks good in whatever she wears.  If there’s one thing I learned from this is that I need more blazers, tweed, and floral in my life!
